Contact: Tammy Harty

My training includes working with clients in both in-patient and out-patient substance abuse treatment programs with teens and adults, sexual trauma survivors, survivors of domestic violence, veterans dealing with PTSD and those that experienced military sexual trauma. I also work with issues involving self-esteem, setting healthy boundaries, assertiveness, depression and anxiety. I work with individuals, families and groups.

My co-therapist offers equine assisted EMDR therapy. We accept a variety of insurance plans.

Tammy earned a master’s degree in counseling from Oregon State University. She is E.M.D.R. Basic Certified and has dual certifications as an Equine Specialist in Mental Health and Learning as well as a Certification as a Mental Health Professional from Eagala as well as P.A.T.H. (Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship) International. She is also trained in Trauma Focused Equine Assisted Psychotherapy. In addition she is a Certified Therapeutic Riding Instructor through P.A.T.H. International.

Philosophy and Approach: I believe that clients have their own answers and are capable of overcoming their struggles and finding new solutions when given the opportunity. I employ cognitive behavioral therapy and DBT therapy as well as solution oriented, person centered and strength based approaches.

I utilize Equine Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP) to partner with horses in the therapy process. The horses serve as catalysts for change and emotional growth. With this hands-on, experiential approach to your therapy, you will learn more about yourself and find deeper meaning and understanding of your own patterns, behaviors and themes by participating in activities with horses.

In EAP and through experimentation, you will be learning DBT skills and building relationship, problem solving and communication skills as well as setting healthy boundaries and reducing anxiety. In this process you will also have an opportunity to increase your self-esteem and practice assertiveness. You will have a chance to try out new behaviors and attitudes with immediate feedback from the horses.

I have done extensive work in the study of Natural Horsemanship exploring the relationship and enhancing the communication with my horses. I want to share this passion of horses on a journey of learning and healing with my clients. Let’s explore achieving wellness through horses.
