Joy graduated in 1984 from the University of California at Los Angeles with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and in 1988, from California State University at Northridge with a Master's Degree in Educational Psychology. In 1991, she earned her California license as a Marriage & Family Psychotherapist. Joy worked for many years with adolescents in group homes, both in Florida and California, and was a case manager for 12 years in the behavioral health insurance industry.

Joy began her EAGALA journey in 2006 and adopted a horse in 2009, the same year she found EquineWorks: Horses Reading People. In 2012, inspired by the positive feedback she was receiving from clients about this work, Joy co-authored : "Soul Recovery: Equine Assisted Activities for Healing from Abuse by Others, Loss of Others & Loss of Self". She earned her EAGALA Advanced Certification in 2014.

Joy is the Clinical Director and Primary Therapist at Sober Spot Recovery in Laguna Hills, California where she specializes in trauma treatment with chemically addicted adults utilizing EMDR, Sandtray, and both Equine Assisted Psychotherapy & Equine Assisted Learning. Her passion is bringing the methodology and thinking behind EAGALA SPUD's into her office so that she stays mindful of staying out of the way of people's story.

Joy is extremely grateful to be collaborating with two non-profit programs: Boulder Springs Equine Therapy in Perris, CA and The Dala Center in Fallbrook, CA. She co-facilitates EAP/EAL sessions with foster children, with teens and with chemically addicted adults and specializes in Resiliency. She also enjoys co-facilitating EAL sessions for relationship enhancement and leadership skill development as well as team building events.
